Krishnapatnam Port in Nellore District of Andhra Pradesh is the largest private port on the East Coast of India. It is an all-weather deep-water port capable of handling . The port is being built through a mandate awarded by the Andhra Pradesh government to develop the existing minor port into modern, deep water & high Productivity port, on BOST (Build–Operate-Share-Transfer) concession basis for 50 years. The port is a major economic gateway that caters to the southern hinterland of India with multimodal connectivity. Krishnapatnam Port is a major edible oil hub of India. Multiple berths are equipped with 16-inch dia pipelines with a discharge rate of up to 600 tons per hour for-handling edible oil. Pipelines are directly connected from the jetty to the refineries and can handle diverse range of vegetable oil products. The port provides end-to-end services with zero cargo losses.

POL jetty of capacity 6 MMTPA is under construction which can handle up to 1,50,000 DWT Tankers. Expected to operationalize from April 2022.

  • One of the largest turning circles (500m diameter) to ensure safe manoeuvring of vessels.
  • Deep draft Of 18.5 mtrs alongside berth with no Beam & LOA restriction.

Infrastructure

Krishnapatnam Terminal has vast infrastructures which handles multiple types of Cargo. With deep draft berths and multipurpose terminals, the port efficiently handles the largest bulk carriers in the world. The port has covered and open storage areas with enormous capacity. Excellent cargo evacuation and receiving infrastructure support smooth cargo movement in and out of the port.

Huge transit storage area of 6,800 acres as per approved master plan. The port has multiple covered godowns and open yards for storage of large volumes of cargo. The covered storage infrastructure exceeds 2 lakh sqm area. Open storage yards with a total area of 608 acres is available for storage of different cargoes.

Cargo can be received and evacuated by road, rail, air, conveyors, and pipelines.

The port can handle 60 rakes per day for inbound and out bound cargo. Separate sidings are provided for agri, fertilizer, coal, minerals, steel cargoes.

The port has 4 -lane road connectivity allowing easy movement of cargo to and from the port.

Krishnapatnam Port has deep drafts, all weather and direct berthing facilities.

The port has twelve operational berths viz. two container berths, eight multipurpose berths and two coal berths.

Dedicated berth for POL liquid cargo is under construction and shall be ready for operations by the end of this financial year.

Krishnapatnam Port boasts superior support infrastructure which include 04 nos. tugs, high speed pilot boats, survey boats etc. ensuring 24x7 uninterrupted and smooth operations at the port.

Multi-Modal Connectivity by Road & Rail to the National Grid.

Rail

Krishnapatnam Rail Co Ltd (KRCL) is a SPV formed for rail connectivity to port. It comprises 26 km of electrified double line connecting the port to Venkatachalam Road Junction which has access to Chennai – Kolkata trunk route. Further there is rail connectivity of additional 91 Km from Venkatachalam to Obuluvaripalle. This rail line will reduce the distance between the port and the regions of south-eastern Karnataka and south-western Andhra Pradesh by 70 km, thereby saving substantial freight cost. Internal Rail Network of 52 Km with 60 rakes in/out a day capacity.

Road

Dedicated 26 km four-lane road connecting the port to National Highway No. 5 (Chennai-Kolkata Highway) which is being upgraded to six-lane road facilitating obstruction free passage for ODC.

Air

Chennai International Airport (180 Km).

Tirupati Domestic Airport (120 Km).

Helipads within the Port.

For dry cargo, a set of high capacity Grab Ship Unloaders (GSUs), and Mobile Harbors Cranes ensure quick discharge and loading of vessels. A large fleet of support equipment such as excavators, pay loaders and mobile equipment ensure uninterrupted and smooth operations across the entire terminal. Additionally, the port has a fully integrated conveyor system for smooth and fast transit of cargo. For liquid cargo, pipelines enable efficient handling of vegetable oil tankers. For containers, state-of-the-art rail mounted quay cranes have been deployed.
