Adani welcomes Queensland Government support
Adani welcomes today’s announcement by the Queensland Government to support its plans for a new rail line in the Galilee Basin.
Adani Chief Executive Officer Australia, Harsh Mishra said he believes the decision demonstrates the Government’s confidence in Adani and its strong track record of delivering major projects around the world.
“I welcome Deputy Premier Seeney’s announcement today, which shows the Government’s continued support for the development of the Galilee Basin,” Mr Mishra said.
“We have already made a significant investment in Australia with our purchase of the Port of Abbot Point and our plans for a thermal coal mine that will produce up to 60Mtpa, which will have to be transported by rail to the port for export.”
Last week Adani Mining Pty Ltd lodged a Referral of Proposed Action (an environmental assessment) with the Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities (SEWPaC) for a North Galilee Basin Rail project.
The proposed railway would consist of 300km of standard gauge line with an operational capacity to transport 100Mtpa of coal and connect the Galilee Basin with the Port of Abbot Point.
“Our new proposed rail project will help to solve the current lack of infrastructure and capacity to transport coal from the Galilee Basin,” Mr Mishra said.
“Adani is also willing to work with other proponents to help transport the coal from the Galilee Basin to the port.
“The Queensland Government has been very supportive of Adani’s Carmichael Mine and Rail project, which is already delivering benefits across the State by way of jobs and supporting local businesses.”
Adani’s proposed Carmichael Mine and Rail Project will deliver many benefits to the local, state and national economies and the proposed North Galilee Basin Rail project signifies that our project is on track.
